For clients working in defence, aerospace and other controlled supply chains, engineering capability is only part of the picture. How a supplier handles your project information — your drawings, specifications, communications and documentation — matters just as much.
FDi Engineering has successfully passed its Stage 2 audit for ISO 27001 with formal certification pending. This milestone reflects the work we have carried out to build structured, accountable information security practices into the way we operate every day.
Why information security matters in engineering
Technical drawings, CAD files, specifications and project documents frequently contain sensitive commercial or operational information. In sectors such as defence and aerospace, the consequences of that information being mishandled — lost, leaked or accessed without authorisation — can be significant.
Managing that risk requires more than good intentions. It requires structured systems, clearly assigned responsibilities and secure working practices embedded at every stage of a project. ISO 27001 provides the framework to build and demonstrate exactly that.
Supporting controlled supply chains
FDi Engineering provides CNC machining, fabrication, welding, mechanical assembly and project delivery support from its facility in Dorset. Achieving ISO 27001 certification strengthens our position as a secure, accountable partner for organisations operating in demanding and regulated sectors.
Specifically, it provides assurance around the handling of:
- Technical drawings and specifications
- Sensitive project documentation
- Client and supplier communications
- Controlled manufacturing requirements
- Inspection and traceability records
- Commercially sensitive information
- Multi-stage project delivery
Secure processes built into our culture
At FDi Engineering, ISO 27001 is not a box-ticking exercise. It forms part of a wider management culture built on structured processes, clear accountability and continuous improvement. From initial enquiry through to final delivery, our teams are working to ensure that information security is considered at every stage: how projects are set up, how information is shared, how decisions are documented and how client data is protected.
A wider commitment to certified systems
ISO 27001 sits alongside FDi Engineering’s wider commitment to certified, responsible and dependable engineering. Together with our existing management systems and cybersecurity commitments, ISO 27001 supports how we manage quality, risk, safety, environmental responsibility, and information security across the business.
Passing the Stage 2 audit is an important step forward, and we look forward to sharing confirmation of formal certification once issued. A big thank you to everyone involved in reaching this milestone.
